Title: STUDENTS' LEVEL OF WRITING SKILLS IN SIXTH GRADE SPECIAL PROGRAM

Abstract: This study ensured the (1) level of skill students had in writing news in Grade 6 of schools that
taught the Special Program in Journalism in City Sorsogon.Description-analisis was used by
researchers to gather data or information that was relevant to the study. Participants in this study
developed 40 students in each class and three (3) teachers from schools that carried out the Special
Program in Journalism. Random sampling was used to select students while purposive sampling
was used to select teachers. A writing-focused exam was given to the student to measure their
level of news writing skills. Through the checklist the teacher's problem with teaching and
students' problems with writing news. A personal interview was also conducted to provide enough
data. The data collected was analyzed, analyzed and interpreted with the help of frequency count,
mean, and ranking.
Students are at a level of knowledge in writing news based on the proper use of punctuation,
capital, spelling, proper use of words and order of ideas. The problems facing students in writing
news and the problem of teacher counselors developing the ability of students in Grade 6 of the
Special Program in Journalism are not sufficiently knowledgeable. The strategies used by teachers
to teach news writing in interviews conducted include gathering newspaper and magazine news to
make students more accountable for different styles of writing news, researching internet news
tools and making paperwork and making news writing practices. It became a recommendation that
teachers must train students to form sentences with full spirit, properly using large and small letters
in sentences and the proper use of pun puny, sentence organizing and paragraphs. Learner can
explain its importance to writing.
