Title: INSTITUTIONS AND THE SUSTAINABILITY OF GROWTH IN WEST AFRICA: AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS |
Authors: Aw Mbaye, Senegal |
Abstract: This study analyzes the impact of institutions on the sustainability of growth in the ECOWAS region. Using panel data (1990–2024) and duration models, the results show that political stability, state credibility, and regulatory quality significantly increase the persistence of growth phases. Conversely, institutional fragility exposes economies to premature reversals. The findings highlight the urgency of structural reforms targeting transparency, policy predictability, and administrative efficiency in order to consolidate regional development. The sustainability of growth thus appears to be conditional on the quality of the institutional framework. |
